I've been thinking about sensitivity as a theme for our team.
I had a weird exchange recently. I felt wronged and hurt as a result of an interaction at an estate sale. I felt misunderstood, and bad about arguing in the home of the deceased.
More important than a silly miscommunication is the following takeaway: When we experience a feeling of sadness or hurt, it's often because a value has been brought up in us.
I think about this post I shared to my Instagram story:
I refuse to accept the norm that sensitivity is a bad thing. I believe it occurs when a value is being addressed or challenged.
When we find what that value is, and act from it, and say "Hey, this is wrong and I'm going to speak up against it" we heal the world.
I think that's what it comes down to.
I want my team to lean into our sensitivity, feel it. Don't look away from it. Don't hide it. from it. Don't push it down.
Sit with it and figure out what the value lies underneath the hurt.
Use it to take action. And use it to make a better, more sustainable, fashion industry.
