Girl group HAIM officially said it in an Instagram street style video - maybe the first time the general public got wind the dreaded (by some) millennial favorite had returned.
Those of us following the luxury fashion space closely, however, have long seen it coming.
Pant legs have been wide for a long time, they have to go narrow again. It's the way of the world. Skinny jeans are back.
But what do you do if you JUST finally parted with all your skinnies?!
First of all, forgive yourself. When it comes to shedding items that no longer serve you, it's generally a net positive. Even if we regret a few of those items that left us...
We can only make the best decision we have with the information we have at the time. Ok, I have a bunch of these, I'm not wearing them, they're taking up space, I'm tired of looking at them...
My tips for the future:
1. Give yourself grace. None of us (likely) chose such a fast-moving world. We're all doing the best we can.
2. Keep the best version of the thing when getting rid of clothing categories – sage advice from a customer that I will continue to share! I donated all my button-up cardigans, for them to come back in style less than a calendar year later. My biggest regret is a white heather-ed yarn, An Original Penguin by Munsingwear sweater. That one was the priciest, and best made. Though I got it for free as part of my uniform working there. Taking my client's advice, that would have been the thing to hang on to.
3. An idea I just had – we love getting your discards at fulfilled. I'm probably local, or you know me personally if you're reading this. Take your donations to me; if you have regrets, you can come back for it - no questions asked. Its easier than scouring the thrift store for an item you regret getting rid of – been there! I'm searching Poshmark for m Original Penguin cardigan as we speak...
Personally, I'm thrilled the skinny jeans that end up at fulfilled get their chance in the sun. My guilt for what happens to each piece I receive or collect if it's not right for the store, or the moment, is heavy.
Below is a selection of denim at the store – if you're ready to go back to slimmer lines like we are.
